His guitar wails
His bass bumps
His banjo plucks
And his drums thump
Who is our funny, funky friend full of energy?! Running around the stage acting goofy with all those instruments? It's Russell Sprout! From folk to rock to country to blues or reggae or electronic or whichever you choose. Russell Sprout has so many kinds of music to suit any style. He has some silly ditties but he can also get serious and inspire! Sure, our friend sings about superheroes and goes karate kicking imaginary bad guys, but he also sings about the importance of the environment and how we can treat each other for a better tomorrow. Always fun, always interesting, and always inspiring: you never know what Russell Sprout will pull out of his weird, wild, hat!
So who is the goofy guy under the hat? Russell Sprout - aka Russell Leon - has been teaching music and performing in Toronto for more than 20 years. A graduate of York University's music program, Russell is a teacher on the faculty of University of Toronto's Jackman Institute of Child Study and at the Humberside Montessori School. Russell received the award for Best Children's Song from Folk Music Ontario and continues to carve a name for himself in the 'Kindie' music space.
Russell Sprout's self-titled debut recording incorporates humorous and educational themes wrapped up in an irresistibly silly package. Check back soon for more information and news on his follow-up album with producer Ken Whitely (Raffi, Fred Penner).
A Tricky Doodle
In the song Funky Doodle there are very tricky lyrics. Try singing this as fast as you can.
Cover it in chocolate sauce and add a soggy noodle.
Cover it in candy floss and call it a funky doodle.
Russell Sprout's debut album is out now on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and more!
